Olympians and national champions lead Team USATF at first Athletics World Cup

6/29/2018

INDIANAPOLIS -- Olympic medalist Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio), World Champion Sam Kendricks (Oxford, Mississippi), Diamond League champion Darrell Hill (Darby, Pennsylvania) and 2018 USATF Outdoor 200m champion Jenna Prandini (Clovis, California) lead a strong Team USATF contingent at the first ever Athletics World Cup, to be contested at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in London, July 14-15, 2018.

At the Athletics World Cup, eight countries will come together to showcase their track and field skills against the best in the world. Only one male and one female will be allowed in each event, and all IAAF-recognized events up to the 1500m will be contested. USATF athletes were selected based on 2018 USATF Outdoors results.

Team USATF returns to the site of a successful 2017 IAAF World Championships where Kendricks - fresh off his 2016 Olympic silver medal - clinched the international title over Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie.

Newly-reigning American record holder in the women’s hammer throw Deanna Price (Moscow Mills, Missouri) will look to extend her world lead against the top athletes from seven other nations. 2018 USATF Outdoors Champion Kara Winger will also look to defend her stats in the women’s javelin.

University of Houston stars Kahmari Montgomery (Plainfield, Illinois) and Cameron Burrell (Houston, Texas) make their first appearances on a senior national team following impressive performances at USATF Outdoor Championships. Montgomery claimed the Progressive Men’s 400m in 44.58, while recent graduate Burrell made it to the finals in the 100m.

Triple jump phenom Keturah Orji (Mountville Olive Township, New Jersey) 4x400m Olympic gold medalist Courtney Okolo (Carrollton, Texas) and hurdles stars Devon Allen (Phoenix, Arizona) and Queen Harrison (Richmond, Virginia) are among those representing the red, white and blue in London.

Coaches Linda Lanker and Lynn Smith will lead Team USATF. Click here for a release on team staff.
