Sam Kendricks Leads 41-Athlete Strong Team USATF into Athletics World Cup

By Adam Kopet

The first Athletics World Cup is scheduled to take place July 14-15 in London. USATF named the 41 athletes who have been named to the U.S. team Friday.

Last year, Sam Kendricks won the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in the pole vault. He will return to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium to compete for Team USATF once again. He is the only 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships winner named to the U.S. team.

The Athletics World Cup is a new event on the summer schedule this year. Eight countries will enter teams for the two-day event. Every IAAF outdoor event 1,500 meters and shorter will be contested, including all of the field events.

Also on the team are Clayton Murphy, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the 800, DeAnna Price, the new American record holder in the hammer throw, and Darrell Hill, the 2017 Diamond League champion in the shot put.

Also competing are IAAF World Indoor 400 champion Courtney Okolo and 2016 Olympic triple jump fourth-place finisher Keturah Orji.

Athletes were selected at the USATF Outdoor Championships. USATF has a list of all 41 athletes named to Team USATF for the Athletics World Cup.
